Fashion-conscience.com Director on panel for Esthethica exhibition at London Fashion Week

May 19th, 2009

In September, London Fashion Week will hold an exhibition called Esthethica, a celebration of eco-sustainable fashion. This will be the seventh year it has been featured and our very own Director, Lianne Ludlow, will be part of the selection panel – deciding which designers or labels will showcase their ethically-minded collection. Esthethica started as a British Fashion Council initiative but it has developed into the epicentre of London Fashion Week as it allows like-minded designers, manufacturers and consumers to join together. It will be an exciting eco community educating people about sustainable, recycled and fair trade fashion. The Spring/Summer selection included some of our amazing designers, such as Beyond Skin, Del Forte, Fifi Bejoux and Minna. The Autumn/Winter 2009 exhibition will feature more of the best designers in ethical clothing and we are proud to be part of this inspiring show of ‘green’ fashion.

Gisele Bundchen designs new ethical footwear to raise funds for reforestation

May 12th, 2009

Gisele Bundchen has designed a fabulous range of flip-flops with the Ipanema footwear company. The Seed Collection launched for this spring/summer season, is unique with forest–inspired prints on the soles with a ’life spiral’ stud detail on each pair, and all materials used are 100% synthetic so they are suitable for everyone including vegans. The brazilian model is passionate about the environment, and more specifically supporting the reforestation of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Proceeds from the GB Seed Collection will be donated to ‘Forests of the Future’ project, planting 25,000 trees of 100 different species, enough to revitalise an area of 15 hectares. Comfortable and stylish, the vegan shoes are a must-have for this summer and by purchasing the product you will be supporting the environment, workers rights and when your Ipanema flip flops have finally flopped, the moulded, expanded PVC is recyclable! To find more ethical clothing, accessories and footwear, check out our own amazing selection at Fashion-conscience.com.

‘Cotton On’ event happening this weekend!

May 7th, 2009

‘Cotton On’ is a one-day conference happening this weekend for people to explore different aspects of organic cotton and find the most sustainable ways forward. This event is open to fashion students, designers, ethical consumers, retailers and manufacturers who can learn more about producing or buying eco friendly clothing.  The event will include speakers such as Lucy Siegle, an environmental journalist, Robin Maynard, Campaigns Directors for the Soil Association and Barbara Crowther, the Communications Director for the Fairtrade Foundation. Organic cotton is important to Fashion-conscience.com as it has less impact on the environment compared to conventional cotton - which is produced using pesticides and chemical fertilisers that damage the soil’s fertility. We don’t want chemicals on our clothes or to allow growers to harm the land so although organic cotton is more expensive, it is a much more ethically friendly way to buy fashion and will provide a better future for the environment. We stock a range of organic cotton clothing such as Amana’s black blazer and tailored trousers with the amazing Vegan Queen boston handbag, a unique and funky accessory perfect for your daytime office outfit. Our organic yet versatile pieces for the summer would include Amana’s pale blue tie waist skirt, Camilla Norrback’s beige high waisted peg leg trousers or WildLifeWorks cullotte shorts. However, if you want to treat yourself then check out our organic cotton underwear with Enamore’s black or white peek a boo bra and knicker set, or Ciel’s pink boy shorts blush with matching cache coeur bra. The ‘Cotton On’ event will take place at the council house in Bristol on Saturday 9 May, but if you want information about an organic lifestyle read more at the Soil Association website.
